Bromery Center for the Arts
The University of Massachusetts in Amherst is an impressive example of the power of learning and knowledge. Set on 310 rural acres, it has been providing classes since 1867, constantly upgrading and expanding its offerings. One of its expansions, the Randolph W. Bromery Center for the Arts, is a Brutalist structure built in 1970 and designed by I. M. Pei & Partners. Constructed with poured stereometric concrete, the two story building features a steel frame glass façade. It has become a vibrant hub of creativity and culture, hosting performances, classes, and community events throughout the year. While Brutalist buildings may not be everyone's cup of tea, I personally find them fascinating. The clear lines, combined with the morning light, offer a unique perspective that can be explored from many angles.
